STAR Testing
STAR testing, the state's way of assessing whether we have taught what we need to have taught is coming up in a couple of weeks.  Grades 2-6 will be administering the test the week of April 23.  In second grade we will be testing the students in the morning beginning promptly at 8:25 each day.  We do our best to make this as non-stressful as possible for the kids, emphasizing the idea that it's really about how well we have taught the students what they need to know, and assuring them that we have, so they have nothing to worry about.  However, if your child is experiencing any anxiety please let me know and I will do everything I can to make them feel better about things.

In the past we have had parents provide healthy snacks, such as cheese and crackers or fruit, and juice boxes,  for the kids during testing week.  It gives the kids something to look forward to and ensures they have all had something to eat during the morning recess break.  I'll be sending home a schedule to sign up for this by the end of the week.

Finally, it is important that the students are getting plenty of sleep each night, so that they come to school well rested and ready to put forth their best effort.  It is equally important that each child be to school on time so that we can begin testing as soon as possible, this way the children will have as much time as they need to finish.  I assure you that your children are ready, and I know they will do well on this.
